Mixed Fortunes for Opposition as NRM Dominates Teso Parliamentary Seats

 

The Teso sub-region has concluded its parliamentary elections, with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) emerging dominant across most districts, while opposition parties and independent candidates secured several key seats.

In Kumi District, Silas Aogon won the Kumi Municipality seat as an Independent. Okasai Opolot (NRM) retained Kumi County, and Opolot Okwalinga (NRM) captured the Kanyumu County seat.

The District Woman MP position went to Christine Apolot, also running as an Independent.

Ngora District recorded a clean sweep for NRM, with Abraham Isamat winning Kapir County, Juliet Achayo taking Ngora County, and Florence Pedun elected as District Woman MP.

In Kapelebyong District, Francis Akorikin (NRM) secured the County MP seat, while Jacinta Atuto (NRM) won the Woman MP position.

Soroti City delivered mixed results: Moses Attan (FDC) won Soroti City East, Calvin Echodu (NRM) clinched Soroti City West, and the Woman MP seat went to Joan Alobo (FDC).

Bukedea District saw NRM tighten its grip, with Opolot Isiagi winning Kachumbala County, Beecham Okwere taking Bukedea County, and Anita Among elected as Woman MP.

Katakwi District also favored NRM, which captured all seats: Peter Ogwang (Ngariam), Solomon Osiyya (Toroma), Ongorok (Usuk), and Jessica Alupo as Woman MP.

In Serere District, Omoding Emmanuel (NRM) won Serere County, Peter Paul Emaju (NRM) took Kasilo County, while Pingire County went to an Independent candidate, Ojiit.

The District Woman MP seat was claimed by Esther Lucy Achom (Independent).

Soroti District elected Herbert Ariko, Patrick Aeku, and Edeku Edopu, all on the NRM ticket, while the Woman MP seat went to Anna Ebaju Adeke (FDC).

In Kalaki District, Ongalo-Obote (NRM) won the County seat, with Ajilo (NRM) securing the Woman MP position.

Kaberamaido District saw Alfred Edakasi Olale win Kaberamaido County, Francis Okulo (NRM) also elected, alongside Amongin Jane Francis.

The results underscore NRM’s continued dominance in Teso, though opposition parties and independents maintain influence in urban centers and select constituencies, highlighting a regional balance of political competition.
